Finally made it to the site of the New York World’s Fairs this past Friday, 11 October, 2013. Site of both the 1939 and 1964 Fairs, Flushing Meadows Corona Park is now filled with relics from the latter exposition, including the Unisphere. Centerpiece of the 1964-65 fair, the 120-foot high stainless steel globe represented the theme of Peace through Understanding, and was built on the foundations of the previous fair’s Perisphere centerpiece.

A scholar of the fairs as well as of aerospace, it was incredible to finally walk amongst fairgoers, taking in similar sights and sounds.
